We knew we were in Oklahoma when we saw a billboard for Joe Bob the Bondsman, red dirt, rivers of red mud, and felt the wind.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from I-35. We were on our way to the Twin Fountains RV Park north of the city. We had stayed there two years ago. Can't believe that it has been two years and that we have been participating in this life-style long enough to repeat staying places.
This is Twin Fountains RV Resort for those who RV.Ted's cousin and his wife, Larry and Michelle, took us to the Red Rock Canyon Grill on the north reservior in Oklahoma City for dinner. The food was wonderful, the view amazing, especially for the middle of Oklahoma, and company very enjoyable. What more can you ask? We are very impressed with the will of the citizens of Oklahoma City. Larry and Michelle told us that they have voted a 1/4 a cent tax twice to build many civic buildings and improve city schools. Traffic is amazingly light, everywhere. They said this is normal. OK, I want to live in a city like this without the summer heat.
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is just blocks from our RV park. This statue is Day's End.This is what you see as you enter the museum. It is called End of the Trail. It was sculpted by James Earle Fraser, who wanted to portray the Trail of Tears as symbolism for the end of the Native American way of life.
The museum limits the places where visitors can take photos. The Canyon Princess is the is the second dramatic view. The marble is amazingly smooth. The cowboy is the interest to a room focused on the rodeo. This is after seeing rooms of Russell and Remington painting, sketches, and sculptures; Indian art and artifacts; cowboy artifacts, military weaponary and clothing, Native American art, clothing, tools, and utensils, western movie memorabilia, and art about Glacier National Park. We recognized many of the views depicted. The more we travel, the more connections. Connections make the travel more addictive and reading, TV, and the internet more interesting.I didn't get photos, but the Lamar Sign Company has some very clever billboards along I-35. One said, "My name is Bill Board and I am available." Another said, "Tall, outdoor type looking for a relationship."
